Spacer rings for bearing spacing on shaft and in housing
A spacer ring holds two bearings, or a bearing and a shoulder, at a fixed distance from each other on the shaft or in the housing. The ring carries no load itself, but it fixes the position of the bearing, and that position decides whether the preload is right and whether the shaft stays where it belongs. On reassembly the rings therefore go back in the same order and the same thickness, because a small difference already changes the clearance of the whole arrangement.
Choose on inside diameter, outside diameter and width, and make sure the seating face stays flat and square: a ring that runs out of true pushes the bearing out of line and the fault shows up as heat and noise rather than as a visible error. The sizes step up in inside and outside dimension, so shaft diameters from small transmissions through to heavier drives are all served. SKF supplies the common programme.
Matching bearing components sit under inner ring, which is where to look when a separate ring rather than a complete bearing is being replaced.
